Under The Sea And so the season begins again, and after Christmas and New Years weeks, tired and stressed out staff needed a good reason to get back on the party train and what better excuse than a Huck Cancer night in Le Bubble Bar in 1650?! Wednesday the 6th of Jan was the night chosen, and the theme for this fancy dress parade through the streets of 16 was ‘Under the Sea’. Now then, an ‘Under the Sea’ theme, in the Alps, where fancy dress material is in short supply, you’d figure most of the girls would have gone down the bikini route wouldn’t you? Well, sadly you’d be wrong…. With the initial disappointment of not seeing scantily clad chicas walking in, the night kicked off in true Huck Cancer fashion, with absolute mayhem behind the bar. The guest bar staff from last season were back, and you’d figure that they’d remember a little of what they were taught last season, once again, you have been proved horribly horribly wrong! After seeing this Jess made the wisest decision in the history of the world to shrink the bar menu to 5 drinks….. Parrott’s Poison (Demi Mutzigs), Blue Lagoon Cocktails, Unexploded (Jager) WWII bombs (sensing a theme with the names here…..?!) Vino and some shots.
Big props on the costume front have to go to (in no particular order) Bubble Bar staff who came dressed as various parts of a sunken pirate ship, (Mega props to Becca Jones for her skeleton pirate captain, including a Parrott on her shoulder, cheers BJ!) Bitchardson for her lovely hammerhead shark, the rest of the Le Ski kids (cant remember all the costumes, as was pretty hammered for the majority of the evening!) Rocky’s lovelies for coming as mermaids, Pinch for his fantastic, although slightly un-politically correct, bearded clam! Dan ‘the Puffer Fish’ Wilson, Steve ‘Sir Faffle’ Hartlefish, spent all day constructing a ma-hu-sive blue whale, and taking up approximately 2/3rds of the bar! Best costume of the night however, went to Clare from Le Ski for her amazing, fairy light using Jellyfish! Bottle of Champagne for the winner, 5 minutes later….. bottle finished! Winner, winner chicken dinner! Brace yourselves folks…. more mega guest props coming up…. this time for Guy and Robyn from Chalet Bonheur who came as scuba divers, and for making it to the Funky Fox still in costume! They were one of only 3 people to achieve such a feat, which brings us to……………… Kiwi Sam. Sim was one of the guest bar staff, and started off wearing an elaborate ‘old school’ deep sea diver suit. As the clock struck 11pm and with working behind the bar becoming an even more difficult task due to how much we were drinking, the decision was made to bail and reveal our ‘under’ costumes! As the 4 of us strolled out from the store room, dressed in nowt but pink swimming caps, pink kids goggles, speedos and your customary Huck Cancer sweatband, howls (although slightly cruel, I mean we’re in the Alps, its gonna be cold!) of laughter could be heard ringing through the bar! Big thanks go to Ski Bartlett of Uxbridge for hooking us up with a sweet deal on a pair of K2 Extremes, and after having them up in the bar for a week or so before the big night around 200 or so tickets had been sold, Ewan ‘The Macklefish’ Mackie from New Gen then proceeded to do his customary ‘get on the mic and fill the bar with his infectious bouts of enthusiasm’ following this we couldn’t sell the damn things quick enough! Draw took place just after midnight and although some confusion as the eventual winner was too drunk to be able to even read the numbers on his tickets, the winner was Simon Hill from Le Ski. Simon was then dragged over the bar to collect his prize! Aided by the gallon of Mutzig which he’d just consumed, he seemed to be a very happy chap! (He was about to get even happier, but that’s a story for another day!) The final total for tickets stood at 405, which is definitely the highest total we’ve ever sold throughout the last couple of seasons, and coupled with some generous donations the final total for the night was €901! Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everyone who came in, brought tickets, got hammered and generally got involved, the night was a fantastic success, so mucho gracias! The next night is scheduled for Wednesday the 3rd February, with a Tex Mex theme going on….. so thinking caps at the ready for costumes and remember that if you’re not wearing a crap load of cardboard, or nothing at all, then its not really a costume!
